About

About deutics

deutics is a free, independent directory of degree programmes at German universities, with tools that help international students work out where they can apply, whether they meet the requirements, and what studying in Germany will cost.

What the site is for

Applying to a German university from abroad means comparing programmes across hundreds of institutions, converting a foreign grade to the German scale, finding the right language certificate, and budgeting for a blocked account and insurance before you arrive. The information exists, but it is spread across university sites, portals and PDFs. deutics puts it in one place: programmes and universities you can filter and compare, a grade converter, a living-cost calculator, a programme finder, and practical guides to the visa, the blocked account, health insurance, uni-assist and working while studying. There are no accounts, no paywall and no login.

Who runs it

deutics is an independent project built and maintained by Kahraman Arda Kılıç in Cottbus, Germany. It is not affiliated with the DAAD, uni-assist, any university or any government body. Full legal details are in the imprint.

Where the programme data comes from

Programme records are compiled from public sources: primarily the DAAD study-programme database and the programme pages that universities publish themselves. City data on university pages (population, share of international students, typical living costs) comes from public statistics. Records are normalised so they can be compared: grade requirements are expressed on the German 1.0–4.0 scale, language requirements as CEFR levels, deadlines as dates and tuition as a yearly amount. A field is only shown when a value was actually recorded; we do not fill gaps with estimates.

What deutics adds

The directory is the starting point, not the product. On top of it, deutics provides: an admission check that compares your converted grade with the recorded cutoff of a programme and of comparable programmes; a grade converter based on the modified Bavarian formula used by German admissions offices; a living-cost calculator with city-level figures; and guides written for this site, each with a review date, explaining the steps every incoming student has to take.

How listings are checked

Requirements change every application cycle, so every programme page points you to the official source and asks you to confirm the details there before you apply. Programme and university pages that have too few recorded details to be useful are still available to visitors, but they are kept out of search engines until they are completed. If you find a mistake, use the contact form; corrections are reviewed and the affected page is updated.

How the site is funded

deutics is free to use. It is funded by display advertising and by affiliate links to providers of blocked accounts and health insurance, which every non-EU student needs for the visa. Affiliate links are labelled where they appear. Advertisers and partners have no influence over which programmes are listed, how they are ranked, or what the guides recommend.
