With the combination of specialised knowledge and skills in the mathematical, engineering and business sciences, industrial engineers ensure the effective flow of processes, systems and operations. Typical jobs and fields of employment are related to the design, development and optimisation of production and manufacturing processes, i.e. shop floor control or inventory management. Consulting and project management related occupations are also career opportunities. Other possibilities are logistics and supply chain management or quality management. Apart from administration and management related jobs, quite a few graduates decide to become self-employed and start their own businesses as entrepreneurs or engage themselves as intrapreneurs, pushing forward innovation and fostering business development.
